Problem Statement: Stockerr is an app for people investing in stock market. The basic principle of stock market is to “Buy low. Sell high”. The question is, how do you know which stock is low or high? Even if you choose a handful of stocks, it is tiresome to monitor their prices daily. I myself being a stock market investor wanted an app to show stock price alerts, which will help people make better investment choices.
Design process: I really liked the name since it has an element of controversy to it which is good from a marketing perspective. I wanted this app to show push notifications when stock price goes high or low. Sending out push notification sounds easy to speak. But in reality, it involves lot of realtime data processing on the backend. Keeping these things in mind, we decided to keep the user flows to a minimum. The first version of the app would include the following user flows
- User can login via Facebook and Google
- When the user opens app for the first time, few stocks are added into his watchlist by default
- The user can add search and add stocks to his/her watchlist.
- The user can set a price alert for the stocks
Outcome: Before starting the app development, I looked around for similar apps for Indian stock market. It turned out that most apps were broken and just didn’t work. After I finished the design, a couple of days later, Zerodha launched Sentinel.
Now, Zerodha is one of the top stock investment websites in India. They created Sentinel which addressed the problem of getting stock price alerts. I decided that it would be best to use my time and energy in some other project and not pursue app development of Stockerr.
